How we determine Estimated Restoration Times
We know how important accurate restoration times are for you and your family so we do our best to provide you with accurate information as soon as possible. Many factors affect how we determine your restoration time.
Outside of major storms:
Our system analyzes your outage report and gives you a general estimate.
As crews work on your outage, they may change your estimated restoration time. They could need additional equipment or find the damage is worse than initially thought.
You can
check the status
of your outage online, or sign up for
PPL Alerts
for updates by phone, text or email.
During major storms:
We face hundreds or even thousands of individual repair jobs, and there are several steps before we can provide any restoration time.
We first assess the damage to major infrastructure on the electric grid.
We then give our best estimate on when we’ll restore large regions. This is an area restoration time and many customers in that area will have their service restored sooner.
As jobs are dispatched, they are assigned individual estimated restoration times.
In large storms, multiple repairs at different locations on the power grid may be required to restore your power. If that’s the case, you may receive an estimated time for the first job. After the larger repair is made, we’ll continue to make other repairs, each with their own restoration time, until power is restored to you.
Additionally, as crews arrive on-site and begin working on your outage, they may change your estimated restoration time. They could need additional equipment or find the damage is worse than initially thought.

If your neighbors have power but you don’t:
Different neighborhoods – or even different parts of a single neighborhood – can be served from different circuits.
We may have been able to restore your neighbors while we continue to work on a more challenging problem that affects your service.
If all of your neighbors have power and there is not a tree down on a wire, check your fuse box and safely reset your fuses if needed. If that does not restore your power, please
report your outage online
or call us at 1-800-342-5775.
