Safety is our top priority in everything we do. We strive to maintain a work environment that promotes the health and safety of our employees and the communities where we work and live. We’re committed to educating our customers and the public about how to stay safe around electricity through a wide variety of programs, including theater performances for children, a traveling safety exhibit, a children's book, and an employee safety suggestion program.
We take our mobile electrical safety exhibit across our service territory to teach first responders, contractors, businesses, school students and the public how to stay safe around electricity.
The exhibit is a scaled-down 7200-volt electrical distribution system that was developed and built by our workers. It features live electrical wires, utility poles, and transformers. The latest version of our exhibit is powered by batteries and incorporates safety lessons related to solar and battery power.
Our trained employees use ladders, gloves, shovels and other tools in a controlled environment to show the spark, flames, smoke, and crackle that occur when those items come in contact with live electrical lines.

Our success as a company is tied to the success of the towns and cities we serve. That’s why commitment to the community is at the core of PPL’s values.
We want to help keep our communities safe near power lines and electrical equipment and we do that through programs designed to educate everyone from children to contractors and first responders.
We also believe in giving back. Whether we’re mentoring budding engineers, tutoring school children, cleaning up neighborhood parks or assisting veterans, we continually seek new ways to invest our time and resources into our communities.
Nearly 170,000 children across 29 Pennsylvania counties have seen performances since we started the program in 2015.
Check out our book, “How We Stay Safe Near Electricity,” which is available to download as a PDF. It’s a perfect read for children in elementary school.
The e-SMART Kids website teaches children about electricity through games, activity pages and more.
