PPL Electric UtilitiesGet the facts about the distribution rate request
On Sept. 30, 2025, PPL Electric Utilities filed a request with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to adjust distribution base rates and continue making necessary investments to build a stronger, smarter and more resilient electric grid to better withstand increasingly severe weather, prevent outages, and improve service to customers.
What’s included in the request?
- Stronger system to better withstand extreme weather
Replacing aging infrastructure, adding stronger poles and wires. These investments help prevent outages, especially during storms and extreme weather, and keep your home powered when it matters most. - Reduced tree-related outages
Increasing frequency of tree trimming and removal, including addressing diseased and dying trees on and off our right-of-way. - Next-generation smart grid technologies
Expanding advanced automation to accelerate restoration and reduce outages, and data analytics to inform smarter business decisions that deliver the greatest value for customers. - Customer technology improvements
Expanding customer service self-service options to offer more convenience and flexibility, and reduce call wait times. - No more payment transaction fees
Proposing to remove the separate transaction fee on credit and debit cards as well as
electronic payment methods. - Safer, brighter communities
Proposing to convert all streetlights to LED bulbs for safer, brighter communities that use less energy and require less maintenance.
This distribution rate request is different from the twice-annual Price to Compare rate changes, which involve energy supply charges. We do not mark up or profit from energy supply charges. The rate review filing, including detailed supporting materials, is available on our website at pplelectric.com/RateInfo and through the PUC.

PPL Foundation celebrates a decade of impact
This year, the PPL Foundation proudly marks its 10th anniversary of empowering communities, a true reflection of what it means to be Partners in Power. Since its establishment in 2015, the Foundation has invested over $35 million to spark progress and strengthen the communities we serve.
Through support for education, sustainability and essential human services that include rapid rehousing and food access, we’ve worked side by side with our neighbors to create opportunities and build resilience.
These are just a few ways the Foundation continues to invest in our communities and shape a brighter future:
- $23 million to United Way through its dollar-for-dollar match program.
- $600,000 in scholarships for students studying clean energy.
- $250,000 to STEM educators.
As we celebrate this milestone, the PPL Foundation looks forward to helping communities thrive for generations to come. To learn more about the PPL Foundation and its impact, scan this code or visit pplcares.com.
Hero in a hard hat: Lineworker rescues family from house fire
While finishing up a repair job with his crew in Pittston Township, Brian, one of our lineworkers in Luzerne County, saw thick smoke in the sky. Something didn’t feel right, so he decided to check it out. It’s a good thing he did.
When Brian got closer, he saw a house on fire. He quickly called 911 and stayed on the phone to give updates. At the house, another person was trying to get inside, yelling for anyone who might be trapped.
Brian kicked in the door and discovered a three-year-old girl crying inside. “I put my hand out and said, ‘let’s get out of here.'” He walked the girl outside, but she began yelling for her parents, sending Brian back into the burning house to find them. He searched the first floor, then second, and back downstairs to look in the kitchen.
“As I got there, I could see some stairs to the basement and there was an inferno,” he said. “Then I heard something blow up in the kitchen and reality kicked in. I could feel heat from the fire. That’s when the 911 dispatcher said I needed to get out of the house. I started making my way out of the house and yelling for the parents.”
As Brian left, he saw what he believed were the parents and shouted for them to escape. By then, firefighters had arrived and were ready to help, eventually rescuing the parents from the fire.
“I’m just thankful that I was able to help and that everyone got out OK,” he said. Brian is proof that our commitment to safety — and keeping others safe — extends far beyond our service centers and work sites.
