Looking for ways to green your routine?

It’s easy. Earth Day is Tuesday, April 22!

Make every day a little greener with a new, simple habit. You don’t need a grand gesture to make a big difference when it comes to helping our planet, because every little bit helps. Check out these quick tips that you can easily incorporate into your routine to save energy and reduce your impact on the environment.

  • Install outdoor solar and motion lighting
Choose solar lighting that recharges itself, or motion lighting that keeps your outdoor spaces lit only when in use.
  • Adjust your water heater’s temperature
Lowering your water heater’s temperature by 10°F can save you up to 5% on heating costs.
  • Check the temperature of your fridge and freezer
To save energy, set the temperature of your refrigerator between 35°F and 38°F. The ideal freezer temperature is around 0°F.
  • Commit to adjusting your thermostat
Adjusting your thermostat by just three degrees for eight hours a day can save you 2%–3% on your heating or cooling bill.
  • Save energy and water by taking a shorter shower
According to the Department of Energy, taking a shorter shower can save a significant amount of energy by reducing the amount needed to heat the water.
  • Clean your HVAC air filters every three months
Avoid making your heating and cooling systems work harder and use more energy due to dirty filters.

Jo-Ann

Ask Jo-Ann: a PPL Electric advisor

Question: I’d like to reduce my monthly energy usage, but I’m not sure where to start. Do I need to call a contractor for advice?

Answer: We understand that home upgrades can feel intimidating when you’re getting started.

In our energy efficiency program, we offer a rebate toward an In-Home Audit with a contractor. However, you can also choose to start with a free Virtual Assessment with an Energy Advisor.

Virtual Assessments are 30-minute phone calls and are an easy, convenient introduction to the benefits of energy efficiency. You’ll receive personalized recommendations and a free energy savings kit. If you still have questions, you can choose to schedule an In-Home Audit afterward.

For both Virtual Assessments and In-Home Audit rebates, you must have an active PPL Electric account with electric heat or non-electric heating with central A/C to participate.

Call 1-877-486-9204 to schedule your Virtual Assessment.
