At PPL Electric, we deliver electricity to your home, but we don’t own or operate the power plants where that electricity is generated. Electric suppliers handle that part of the process. In Pennsylvania, you can shop for a supplier based on price or other factors, or you’ll automatically pay the PPL Electric default rate.
If you do shop, beware of variable rates, which start small and then increase depending on the price of power.
Review the price to compare, also known as the PPL default rate. This is the rate you pay if you choose not to shop or you’re on our OnTrack program.
Our bill makes it easier than ever to check the rate you’re paying for electricity and see if you can save. You can also view your rate on the Account Summary page of your online profile.
Before selecting a supplier, ask a few questions about their offer: Will you charge a fixed or variable rate? How long is the contract term? Are there any cancellation fees?

Find a supplier that offers the service, energy source and price that’s right for you. When you sign up with a new supplier, they’ll notify us to make the switch.
If you prefer not to shop or cancel with your existing supplier and return to default, we'll buy the electricity for you and pass on the cost without markup.
