Through the Standard Offer Program, you can save 7% off your electricity supply charge for a one-year period.
Here’s how it works:
The Standard Offer Program (SOP), created by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, offers a 7% discount off PPL Electric’s default rate, also known as the Price to Compare.
When you enroll in SOP, you can either choose a participating energy supplier or we can pair you with a supplier that offers the program.
You’ll still receive one monthly bill from PPL Electric, with our delivery charge and your supplier’s charges noted.
The SOP is for one year, or 12 months, from the date you enroll. Your rate will be fixed (i.e., it won’t change) during those 12 months, and you’ll be able to switch suppliers or cancel your contract at any time with no cancellation fees.
Important: At the end of the 12-month period, you’ll receive notice from your supplier. You’ll have the option to shop for a new supplier, renew your contract with your current supplier at a new rate, or cancel with the supplier and automatically return to PPL Electric’s default rate.
Pay close attention to when your 12-month period ends. You don’t want to be surprised by an increase in your electricity supply charge.
Here are a few tips to shop smart with the SOP:
- PPL Electric’s default rate changes every June 1 and December 1, so it’s a good idea to check your rate every 6 months to see if you’re still saving on the Standard Offer Program.
- When you enroll in SOP, make a note on your calendar for 11 months out. It will serve as a reminder to check your contract and take action.
- Your supplier will send you notice of the rate change prior to your 12-month term expiring, so remember to check your mail and read supplier notifications carefully.
Who is eligible for SOP?
- All residential customers, with the exception of customers who are enrolled in OnTrack are eligible.
- Small business customers who are eligible to shop for a supplier can enroll in SOP.

Note: If you are a net-metering customer or have any type of renewable energy sources installed, contact your supplier to inquire about compensation for any excess generation you produce.
