Price to Compare and Shopping

Shopping 101

Learn more about shopping for your electricity supply.

As your local electric company, we deliver electricity to your home, but we don’t own or operate the power plants where that electricity is generated. Electric suppliers handle that part of the process. In Pennsylvania, you can shop for a supplier based on price or other factors, or you’ll automatically pay the Price to Compare.

If you do shop, beware of variable rates, which start small and then increase depending on the price of power.

3 Steps to Prepare you For Shopping

Follow these tips to make shopping easier
Step 1

Review the Price to Compare

Use the Price to Compare, or default rate, as a reference when shopping for electric generation suppliers. This is the rate you’ll pay if you don’t shop or you’re on our OnTrack program.

Step 2

Check Your Current Rate

If you’re already shopping, check the price you’re paying with your electricity supplier on your bill or the Account Summary page of your online profile and see how it compares to other offers.

Step 3

Know What to Ask

Before selecting a supplier, ask a few questions about their offer: Will you charge a fixed or variable rate? How long is the contract term? Are there any cancellation fees?
